Assertive

Becoming assertive is an art, and it can be difficult for both those who are highly aggressive, and those who are very passive. It requires one to find a balance between these two extremes. Being assertive is a critical skill that you must master, as it will mean the difference between a long and rewarding career, and a short and ineffective one. The one word that can best describe being assertive is find a balance passiveness and aggressiveness

This is something I am trying to work on to become a better manager- for thos who are managers - or are leaders in you company - let me know how you do it with out coming across as aggressive or defensive-

Learning each day of to manage better

This is one of the most difficult things ever, you are right.

Good policies in writing as a foundation help. That way you are pointing to a policy and not making an issue "personal". Although some will take it personal no matter what you do.

Realize there are those who will not respond even if you are balanced perfectly.

However, with those employees who are coming from a healthy perspective will work to the benefit of all concerned when you simply lead by example in upholding company policies yourself and explaining to others why it is of such benefit to the company that we all get on board and do so.
